Review of the Furminator Deshedding Tool

If you have a large dog with an undercoat, you need this Furmintaor Deshedding Tool. Our husky mix named Denver has been with our family for almost 8 years so we have been through several shedding seasons. Huskies (and other dogs with undercoats) typically experience 2 shedding seasons a year–in preparation for hotter weather in the summer and colder weather in the winter.

Now that doesn’t mean they aren’t shedding all year long, they just really, REALLY shed twice a year. If you’re sick of clumps of fur coming off when you pet your dog or having to vacuum three times a day, you need this deshedding tool. Here are some reasons we love this tool:

1. Furminator makes a range of different deshedding tools but this one is specially designed to reach their undercoat. During shedding season, they are shedding their undercoat so if the teeth aren’t long enough to reach the undercoat, you’re just brushing away the top layer of loose fur.

2. The automatic ejector is a game changer. Denver thinks brushing time is play time so if you let go of his collar to pull the hair out of the teeth, he starts bounding away and you have to wrangle him back to continue brushing. Being able to brush him one handed while holding onto his collar saves so much time.

3. This tool saves money on grooming. There are grooming services to help deshed your dog but that only lasts so long. During shedding season, they need regular brushing and who can afford to get their dog groomed weekly? P.S. Please do not shave your dog, that is more harmful than helpful. They need their undercoat.

4. This is a quality product. We’ve tried a bunch of rakes, deshedding tools, etc and the Furminator stands the test of time. Others have broken teeth or loose combs that could not stand up to the husky undercoat.

And finally the TLDR review: if your dog sheds like crazy, just buy this.
