I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the same story. A family gets excited to adopt their dog. They bring the dog home. The dog tears apart the couch/ their bedding/ whatever else in the first few days. The family brings the dog back to the shelter.
It’s a very sad situation and is especially traumatic for the dog. The pupper thought they were free from prison and going home with their new forever family, only to be right back in prison again.
If you’re struggling with a dog that suffers from anxiety definitely check out this post that includes some helpful tips. And, keep reading on for our review of the Kuranda chew proof dog bed for your anxious puppet.
All dogs deserve a home
My primary goal for having this blog is to help prevent situations like this- and help get as many dogs home as I possibly can.
Along with getting a good crate and doing some mild house-proofing, making sure the bedding you get your dog is chew proof is one of the most important things you can do to make sure you’re comfortable with your new dog.
The best dog bed that claims to be chew proof is the Kuranda dog bed. I’ll tell you why it’s the best and help you decide if it’s right for you in this review.

What makes a bed chew proof?
We want to make sure that anything we provide our dogs can’t hurt them if they tear it apart. That’s why I don’t recommend the typical wire crate. There are many stories floating around about dogs that needed to be rushed to the hospital because they tore their mouth apart or tried to swallow a sharp piece of something.
Therefore, the materials of the dog bed need to be solid and the bed has to be constructed well. If the dog chews it then it won’t get very far into tearing it apart.
Features of the Kuranda Chew Proof Dog Bed
- HIGH STRENGTH PVC frame supports up to 100 lbs. For heavier dogs, try the Kuranda All Aluminum Dog Bed or Midnight Black Aluminum Dog Bed.
- Elevated/raised orthopedic design to keep your dog dry, cool, and comfortable.
- Easy to clean and guaranteed to stand up to repeated cleaning.
- Cordura (the material the bed is made out of) is abrasion resistant, is as durable as canvas, and it provides plenty of traction getting on and off the bed. It’s great for indoor use.
- 1 year warranty for any incidental damage.
What Are Reviewers Saying?
My only regret is that I didn’t buy this sooner. We have a 7 year-old red-nosed APBT who chews everything and breaks everything. There are now TWO things in his life that he can’t destroy – the solid black Kong ball and this bed. He LOVES this bed.
He did try chewing it though many times, and when he gets hyper he tries to scratch the canvas, but he can’t break through – and not for lack of trying. Let’s put it this way – this is a dog that “ate” an entire couch. He loved his couch, but he chewed on it whenever we were gone. This bed was our last hope for something comfortable for him.
He uses it during the day for naps and eating treats, and then at night he waits for me to put it in his crate for sleeping! We put a little blanket on it for him and he just sinks in and sleeps. Needless to say, we highly recommend this bed – me and my buddy Pete!

Very good quality and construction. They were fairly easy to assemble. My boxer has chewed up EVERYTHING that we have put in his kennel – couches, beds, blankets, cots, toys, carpet, etc. These beds were recommended to me as “Boxer proof” so I figured I’d give them a try. So far, after a month, he has “attempted” to chew the corners and scratch up the cloth. He has been unsuccessful!!! The way the are constructed, no matter how much he tries to scratch, he can’t get ahold of the cloth to chew it. Great construction! There are teeth marks on the corner of the bed where he has tried to chew, but he hasn’t managed to do much damage. If somehow he manages to chew them up, I will update my review…but so far I would call this a great success!

Verdict
The high strength PVC design is pretty much a completely chew proof dog bed. The high quality construction of this bed with the cordura matting makes this the right choice for brand new dogs in your home or dogs with moderate separation anxiety.
The bed is comfortable with a firm orthopedic design. The elevated “cot” will keep your dog both cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
One of the drawbacks of this kind of design is that it won’t be as comfortable for older dogs or dogs suffering from joint pain or arthritis. If you have a dog like that check out our post on the best orthopedic dog beds here.
